Mile 13: T-Minus One Week!

I'm leaving in a week! I'm leaving in only ONE week!! Its been almost a year since I found out about being hired on Semester at Sea so its really hard to believe that I'm actually starting this journey in such a short time! Here are the happenings this week:

1. Hug People - I flew home to Houston to visit family before the trip. My brother flew in too so we had a small party at the house and got the entire family together for dinner. They all wrote me letters I'll open along along the way! They wrote messages, well-wishes and things to do in notes to me with the name of the port they decided I should open the letter in. This way, I'll get lovely reminders of home during my trip! Sending a huge hug to all my family and friends.

2. Unique Activities - I have friends who travel extensively and they regularly do really cool things to document and remember their travels. One friend takes pictures of himself jumping in the air in every location he goes to. Another records dance videos at major international tourist sites and then creates a montage. Fun right!? So, I've been thinking of something special to do during my voyages too Any suggestions??

3. Eat! - Its common knowledge that my mother is a ridiculously good cook. This week, she has been kind enough to make my favorite meals - ones I'll not get for the next four months I imagine. Dosas! Sabudana Kichdi! Her famous lasagna! Yum! Last night we had Indian chaat - soooo good.

4. Double Check the Lists and Pack - Yes, I'm a list girl. I make a lot of them. And a trip like this requires my neurosis. But, even I forget things. Today, I realized I forgot all my chapsticks in Merced. I have to finish up my assignments for the class I'm teaching as well. And, get a haircut! So many little things to do at the last minute!

Also, I thought it best to order a few currencies from my local bank so that I won't have to wait in long lines at the ATM stand in ports. I haven't gotten all currencies, but I did get euros, pounds, reals, zlotys, and rubles. Phew - thats a lot of different bills. Watch me try to pay a Polish cabbie with a real!

Anyone have any ideas for last minute travel/packing/to do tips? Thanks!
